Musicians invite you to the table! A fine-sounding and delicious experience for the lunch break. With five lunchtime concerts, the Ensemble JungeMusik offers a break from hectic everyday life and a space to be all ears for new types of listening to music and engaging in conversation with the artists. The flutist Erik Drescher cooks for us.

The focus is on five specially composed oboe miniatures, which recure as a theme through the week. Daily oboe solos can be heard from Xuan Yao, Bernd Lauber, Irina Emeliantseva, Kaspar Querfurth and Aigerim Seilova.

Ralf Hoyer: TrioTrio (2018)
TrioTrio is a 3-part composition for different instrumentations that allows the interpreters a large degree of improvisational freedom – while simultaneously demanding instrument-specific, individual interpretation.

There is no score. Each instrumentalist plays from an individual part and should consider it as a solo part. Nevertheless, listening to one another remains an indispensable foundation for a successful performance of the work.

The coordination of the players is accomplished with the help of three simultaneously started stopwatches according to the time indications in the notes.

The three largely identical parts begin canonically, converge in the middle, and separate again towards the end.

Each part must be individually developed from the given tonal material and verbal playing instructions.

There are three tonal ranges: high / middle / low – in this performance represented by flute / clarinet / cello. Yet before the performance begins, another decision must be made: which instrument starts first, second, and third?

From these combinations, new playing variations continually emerge. The ending is open.

Friedrich Goldmann: 3 Strophen (2001)
3 Strophen (3 Stanzas) for violin and clarinet was created in 2001 on commission from the Ensemble JungeMusik Berlin and was performed the same year at the Klangwerkstatt Berlin. Friedrich Goldmann (1941-2009) was one of the most important composers of the GDR, who continued to have a great influence on the younger generation after reunification. From 1991 to 2006, he taught composition at the Berlin University of the Arts. Since the beginning of the festival in 1990, his works have frequently been performed at the Klangwerkstatt Berlin, not least by the Ensemble JungeMusik, which Helmut Zapf founded in 1993 and which has regularly performed at the Klangwerkstatt since 1995.
