Lucky dice and magic sounds – composing with chance
Can chance create music? In contemporary music, it plays a surprisingly important role. One of the best-known pioneers of this idea was John Cage. Among other things, he used coin tosses to determine pitches, rhythms, and pauses. In his series of works Variations, lines, dots, and circles on transparent sheets serve, among other things, as the starting point for ever-new musical events.
This concert offers a vivid and engaging glimpse into how seemingly random decisions can give rise to fascinating sounds. But listening is only part of the concert: the musicians, the audience, and chance itself come together to create a new and unique piece of music.
A playful family concert for curious explorers ages 5 and older.
