In 2026, the Cologne-based Trio Abstrakt makes its debut at Klangwerkstatt Berlin. With its almost classic instrumentation of saxophone, piano, and percussion, the trio represents demanding contemporary chamber music performed with the utmost precision and dedication.
In their concert Modes of Fragility, the trio explores the many possibilities of sonic transformation. At the center of the program is the world premiere of a new work by Taiwanese composer Wei-Chieh Lin. The composition connects two seemingly distant sound worlds: the energy of 1960s free jazz and the sounds of traditional Taiwanese ritual music. The German premiere of Milica Djordjević's Šljaka shapes musical material into new sound structures as if under heat and pressure. Stefan Streich's move explores the convergence of these very different instruments and discovers the ensemble as a "deep instrument."
